Hello, it is Elizabeth and welcome to my video.
00:00:00
Today we are talking about English 5, Unit 5, and today we're doing Lesson 6.
00:00:04
So to start off, I want you to open up your book to page 51 in your English book and you
00:00:11
will see five pictures.
00:00:18
So on those pictures, you might not be sure what they are, but it is indoor climbing.
00:00:21
So just start thinking about what you already know about indoor climbing.
00:00:28
Have you done indoor climbing before?
00:00:32
Maybe have you done outdoor climbing before?
00:00:36
And you can compare the two.
00:00:38
But I do want to read you the passage about indoor climbing so you can listen and follow along
00:00:41
and really focus on the pronunciation of the words.
00:00:49
All right, let's get reading.
00:00:54
A climbing wall is an artificial wall to practice rock climbing. Some climbing walls are outdoors,
00:00:58
but most are indoors in sports centers. A PE teacher at Leeds University in England made the
00:01:07
first climbing wall in 1964. He put pieces of rock into a corridor wall. Today, most climbing walls
00:01:15
are made of wood or brick. The walls have handholds and footholds. These are different
00:01:24
colors to show different climbing routes. Lead climbing is a style of rock climbing with two
00:01:31
people. The lead climber climbs up the wall with a rope. He or she has to wear a harness.
00:01:39
The other climber must hold the rope at the bottom for safety.
00:01:48
Bouldering is a style of rock climbing without a rope.
00:01:54
The climbers must wear rock climbing shoes and they have to climb over a crash pad so that they don't hurt themselves if they fall.
00:01:59
Some climbers use chalk to make their hands dry.
00:02:09
They don't have to use chalk, but it helps them to climb.
00:02:13
Climbers don't have to be adults.
00:02:17
Children can use climbing walls too,
00:02:21
but they have to follow the safety rules.
00:02:24
They mustn't climb without a helmet
00:02:27
and they mustn't climb directly under another climber.
00:02:29
All right, so that is on page 51 in your English book.
00:02:35
And in my next video, we're gonna talk about
00:02:40
the modal verbs of obligation, which you see behind me.
00:02:43
Alrighty, I'll see you in my next video.
00:02:47
Bye-bye.
