So how to form the superlative? Let's see 00:00:00
We have the same as in Spanish, in Spanish it is el más fuerte, el más grande 00:00:04
So in English is the same, we need el, so how do we say that? We use de 00:00:12
Okay, you know this, so in the comparatives we always use dan 00:00:19
bigger than and the superlatives we always have to use de 00:00:24
so it happens the same as in the comparatives, in the comparatives remember 00:00:29
we have ER when we have only one syllable so bigger than, taller than, so 00:00:34
here in the superlative it happens the same but instead of adding ER we have to 00:00:42
add EST so we say the tallest, the happiest, so the cases are the same when 00:00:48
the word is only one syllable like tall so we say the tallest but when it is two 00:00:57
syllables and it ends by Y happy two syllables but the finish letter is a Y 00:01:03
so we have to change the Y and we add EST so that is why the happiest is the same 00:01:10
as in the comparatives and what happens with the long words expensive more than 00:01:16
one syllable and more than two so instead of writing EST we don't say the 00:01:23
expensiest, no, we say the most expensive, and with adjectives of two syllables which 00:01:27
don't finish by Y, like for example clever, so two syllables clever, but it doesn't 00:01:36
finish with Y, so in this case we have to say the most clever, so EST with one syllable 00:01:43
words and most with long adjectives in this case and with words with two syllables ending 00:01:52
by Y we use EST and with words of two syllables not ending by Y we use most, so let's see 00:02:02
some examples, for example we can say this perfume is the most expensive because expensive 00:02:11
is a long word in the shop or he is the happiest person I've met in my life so 00:02:18
remember we are only talking about one thing in this case one person and one 00:02:27
perfume we are not comparing two different things so as in the 00:02:31
comparatives we can say el más grande but we can say also el menos so if we say 00:02:37
el menos is the same, in the comparatives we have to say less, so we say less big 00:02:44
than, less expensive than, in the superlatives is the least, it changes a 00:02:50
little bit, in comparatives it was less but in the superlatives it's least, so we 00:02:59
have we can say the least funny, this joke is the least funny I have ever 00:03:05
hurt or he is the least tall boy in the class or this perfume is the least 00:03:12
expensive in all the shops so it's always the same it doesn't matter if the 00:03:21
word is short or it's long in this case okay so we have when something is the 00:03:27
most and when something is the least of something, clear? And then, as it happened with the comparatives 00:03:33
we also have some exceptions, which are the same, and to explain this I'm going to use 00:03:43
Spanish, so let's think, the word good, bueno, we don't say algo es el más bueno, no, we 00:03:49
We have a word to say that, tenemos una palabra para decir eso, que es el mejor, pues en inglés pasa lo mismo, nosotros no decimos the most good, no, o the goodest, no, ellos dicen the best, which means el mejor, so it's the same as in Spanish. 00:03:58
The word bad, la palabra malo 00:04:14
Nosotros no decimos el más malo 00:04:17
Nosotros decimos el peor 00:04:19
Pues en inglés es lo mismo 00:04:22
Ellos no dicen the baddest 00:04:24
Or the most bad 00:04:26
Ellos dicen the worst 00:04:28
Lo cambian 00:04:30
¿Vale? 00:04:31
Y con la palabra far 00:04:32
Esta es distinto en español 00:04:33
Con la palabra far 00:04:35
Pasa lo mismo 00:04:37
They don't say the farthest 00:04:38
They say the farthest, they change the word totally, so this is the most difficult one 00:04:42
But this one and this one we use the same in Spanish, ok? 00:04:49
So in the comparative form it was this team, for example, Atleti de Bilbao is better than Atletico de Madrid, for example 00:04:52
it's just an example, or we can say that this movie is worse than that other movie 00:05:05
that was the comparative, but in the superlative we can say that Atletico de Madrid is the best team in the world 00:05:13
and we can say that this movie is the worst movie in the world, for example 00:05:22
or this place is the farthest in this city from my house, so we have all those things 00:05:27
