War disasters were still recent in people's minds and writers were not an exception. 00:00:35
One thing that may have inspired Hartley when writing the novel is science and technological 00:00:40

If you have read the novel, you will know that it is set on a distant future, precisely 00:00:46

social class which can do many travels and luxury activities because they have been educated 00:02:47

The relationship between the people against the system and the savages is that they are 00:03:33

It is set in a dystopia, a society in which values, as we know, have disappeared. 00:04:00
Why is it a dystopian novel? The characteristics that show this is a dystopian novel are the 00:04:07
following. First, social control, lack of freedom, and so on. 00:04:13
In Brave New World a perfect society is shown to us, however freedom isn't something important, 00:04:19
furthermore it seems as something painful for stability. 00:04:24
We can also consider Soma as a way to control society, and restricting freedom, as it obstructs 00:04:28
rational thinking and pain. 00:04:34
Second, genetic engineering. 00:04:38
In this novel human beings aren't created naturally, as we do today, but they are created 00:04:41
artificially, by the Bokanowski process, something normal and very important because facilitates 00:04:45

The cloning process is one of the tools that the state uses for his motto, Community, Identity 00:04:53

People are disgusted with natural imperfections, like wrinkles, because of body preservation 00:05:00

Social Classes and Inequality of Opportunities 00:05:10
In this society, human beings are divided for the beginning of its artificial creation 00:05:13
process in different classes, alpha, beta and gamma, delta and epsilon. 00:05:18
Each of these classes serves for a purpose in the society, and because of their artificial 00:05:24
selection and conditioning, they accept and even like their inescapable social destiny. 00:05:29
This creates inequality of opportunities. 00:05:35
4 Literature, art and religion 00:05:40
In the novel Brave New World, almost nobody knows about Christianity or any religion of 00:05:43
the past, thanks to the ten world controllers. 00:05:48
In a time where technological progress is very advanced, the problems are solved by 00:05:51
some and sex, society is not afraid of dying, religion is unnecessary and makes no sense. 00:05:56
All literature is out loud and people want new things. 00:06:03
Hasley message. Hasley wanted to transmit the idea of evil and suffering dressed as happiness. 00:06:08
Some things that Hasley touches are the following. Is benefit without loss, happiness without suffering, or pleasure without pain something good? 00:06:14
One important critique is to pain as false happiness, in the way that in the book there is no big suffering and there is a lot of pleasure. 00:06:24
and also if they felt some suffer, they take Soma. 00:06:35
Finally, the biggest critic is made to the suppression of liberty because just from the beginning the little boys and girls are punished if they touch books or flowers. 00:06:40
There is also a suppression of big writers as Shakespeare, because he is supposed to be old so people wouldn't understand him. 00:06:51
The second big critic is for communism, because is in some way, communism suppress liberty in many ways, but in this book are suppress the nature and books. 00:07:01
After this, consummation is also criticized. 00:07:12
During this book, the DDT and Mustafa bond state that they were always making things supposedly new, 00:07:17
because in truth, they were the same as their last invention, 00:07:25
and is defended by Mustafa saying that if they made something new, people wouldn't understand it. 00:07:30
Through this book, Huxley wanted to represent a much more deep theme than love, sex and 00:07:38
banal things, but he treated to make a critique on consumerism, capitalism, communism and 00:07:43
various dictatorships, and in bigger terms, in liberty and in pain as follows happiness. 00:07:49
Starting with the capitalism, there are some capitalist ideas that state that people who 00:07:56
are born in poverty should stay there for their lives and people who are born in a crucial 00:08:01
situation is changed for their lives. In the book, nor epsilons nor alphas can change their 00:08:06
situation in society. 00:08:12
