with a parliamentary monarchy as a form of government. 00:01:15
It also guarantees citizen rights such as equality under the law, 00:01:19
freedom of expression and the right to vote for citizens over 18 years of age. 00:01:25
New elections were held in 1979 and the party of Adolfo Suárez. 00:01:37
UCD won again. 00:01:42
During his mandate, Spain suffered a serious economic crisis 00:01:44
and terrorists attacked by the ETA were frequent. 00:01:48
Suárez resigned as president. 00:01:53
In 1981, Parliament was voting to elect Leopoldo Calvo Soleto as the new president. 00:01:58
A small group of military officers led by Colonel Antonio Tejero attacked a coup. 00:02:06
However, Tejero did not have support from political parties. 00:02:13
The people or the king and the coup failed. 00:02:18
