In the 8th century the Visigoths came to end with the Muslims' invasion.
00:00:01
In 711 Muslims defeated Visigoths in the Battle of Guadalete and occupied all territory.
00:00:12
They called it Al-Andalus and they made Cordoba the capital city.
00:00:21
The Visigoths had a king like Don Rodrigo or Leviado.
00:00:31
But Muslims had an emir which was controlled by the caliphs of Damascus.
00:00:37
Later, in 756, the Muslims had conquered white territories and they proclaimed the independence.
00:00:49
They didn't need a caliph anymore.
00:00:59
The first independent emir of Al-Andalus was Averramán I, who ordered to build the Mosque of Córdoba.
00:01:01
In the 10th century, the Caliphate of Córdoba was established.
00:01:20
It was ruled by Averramán III. It was a great time of cultural growth.
00:01:26
But the end of the Caliphate of Al-Andalus is near. It was divided into small kingdoms called Taifas. The Taifa kingdoms fought each other continuously. But otherwise the Christian kingdoms of the north took advantage of the division between the Taifas to conquer the land from the Muslims.
00:01:34
Finally, in the 13th century, the Christians defeated the Muslims in the Battle of the Las Navas de Tolusa.
00:01:58
They conquered all Andalus, except the Kingdom of Granada.
