Once upon a time, there was a kind man named Valentine. He lived many years ago in Rome.

Valentine was very friendly and loved to help people. He always had a smile on his face and

made everyone feel happy. One day, the emperor of Rome, Emperor Claudius, decided that soldiers

should not get married. He thought that married soldiers did not fight well in wars.

But Valentine disagreed. He believed that love was important and that everyone should be able

to get married. Valentine decided to help young couples get married secretly. He performed marriage

ceremonies in secret so that the emperor wouldn't find out. Many people were grateful to Valentine

for his kindness and bravery. Unfortunately, Emperor Claudius found out what Valentine

was doing and was very angry.

He ordered that Valentine be put in prison. But even in prison, Valentine remained kind and

cheerful. He even made friends with the jailer's daughter and cured her of her blindness.

On February 14, the day Valentine was executed, he wrote a letter to the jailer's daughter and
