joining 152 other nations who are promoting a mine-free world. 00:00:10
Indonesia is not regarded as a mine-affected country, 00:00:15
but many believe by signing the convention, Jakarta can use its influence 00:00:18
to encourage its Asian neighbours to sign the treaty. 00:00:23
Indonesia is a big country. 00:00:26
It's a country that has an important role in Southeast Asia. 00:00:29
Asia is still a continent where many countries have not signed, 00:00:35
and if one that is the fourth most populated country in the world signs, 00:00:39
I think it's a very good issue. 00:00:46
Each year, more than 10,000 people are killed or severely injured by landmines, 00:00:49
many of them children. 00:00:54
When a child is hurt, the result is often far worse than adults. 00:00:56
That's one of the key reasons Indonesia says it wanted to ratify the treaty. 00:01:00
We don't want to see more children hurt and maimed by the landmine. 00:01:05
Stop, you know, landmine, and then we will see a better world 00:01:11
without the suffering of the small children who have become victims of the landmine. 00:01:16
Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is set to sign the bill into law. 00:01:22
Supporters hope that those countries who have failed to adopt the treaty 00:01:27
