You're watching UNICEF television, highlighting the global water crisis. 00:00:00
More than 250 school children and hundreds of other New Yorkers participated in a Walk 00:00:10
for Water on today's World Water Day. 00:00:16
The walk symbolizes the difficult task people in developing countries must undertake to 00:00:21
get safe drinking water for their families. 00:00:26
I think it's hard for us in the United States or in the developed world to understand sometimes 00:00:29
that there are many people who live in houses where there is no water, no running water, 00:00:35
no sanitation, and that with simple technologies, boreholes, you can actually provide a community 00:00:41
a water source so that people don't spend hours every day walking to get water to provide 00:00:48
for their families. 00:00:57
The event was organized by the Starbucks coffee company and its Ethos water brand. 00:00:58
Many Starbucks employees, customers, and partners were encouraged to participate. 00:01:05
The problem that the world water crisis has is that it doesn't have a voice. 00:01:10
So those billions of people need our help, and World Water Day is a perfect opportunity 00:01:16
today. 00:01:21
That's why we're here, is to raise awareness of this issue. 00:01:22
Starbucks and Ethos hope to raise at least $10 million over five years to help non-profit 00:01:26
organizations involved in water issues. 00:01:33
Through events like this, they are also able to educate more people and empower them to 00:01:37
play a personal role in alleviating the global crisis on water, a basic right for all people. 00:01:42
