hello everyone welcome to this short video where we will learn how to form 00:00:01
the passive voice in English so when we change the sentence from the active 00:00:06
voice to the passive voice many things are going to change in our sentence 00:00:11
first and most obvious one is that our subject in the active voice is going to 00:00:15
become our agent in the passive voice as we can see in orange here so in 00:00:20
In Shakespeare wrote Hamlet, Shakespeare is the subject, but in Hamlet was written by Shakespeare, Shakespeare is the agent. 00:00:26
Same thing happens in the second example with the students. 00:00:35
The next change we can see is that the object of the active voice is going to become our subject in the passive voice, in purple. 00:00:40
Thus, in Shakespeare wrote Hamlet, Hamlet is the object, 00:00:49
but in Hamlet was written by Shakespeare, Hamlet is the subject. 00:00:53
Finally, the most important changes are going to take place in the verb form. 00:00:59
And I say changes because there are two things to consider here. 00:01:04
First, the verb in the active voice is going to be in a particular tense, 00:01:08
and we are going to need the verb to be exactly in that tense. 00:01:13
So, as we can see in green, in Shakespeare wrote Hamlet, wrote is in the past simple. 00:01:18
And so in Hamlet was written by Shakespeare, was is to be in the past simple. 00:01:25
The same thing happens in the second example, where the verb is in a future form, will do, and so we need to be in the future, will be. 00:01:31
The last thing for us to do is to take the verb in the active voice and use it in the 00:01:40
past participle. 00:01:47
And that's it! 00:01:48
That's how we form the passive voice in English. 00:01:50
