From the 1950s, Spain became accepted. During this period, many agreements were signed with

of the isolation and because of Europe's recovery. Spain began to recover economically. Industrial

was opening up to the world, knowing what was outside. This caused a modernization of Spain.

Standards of living in Spain improved. However, there was still no democracy. The dictatorship

still controlled the population and the people who opposed the regime were arrested.

Between 1917 and 1975, opposition to the Franco regime escalated. Tourism and Spanish emigration

helped people to realize that Francoism didn't help Spain to improve. Francoism lost power and

influence. Our resistance against Franco was growing. University students, workers, labor

juniors were still banned, but they started to organize in secret. And the students at

university participated in demonstrations that demanded a democratic form of government.

Franco named Juan Carlos his successor. In 1969, he brought him to Spain to educate him by following

his values. On 20 November 1975, General Franco died and the dictatorship ended. It was the beginning of a new era in which democracy was established.
