We are year 5 in Luzernuda School in Madrid, Spain. We are 21 students. We are very funny and we talk a lot. 00:00:00
But we also work and are kind to each other. Our group is very creative and works designing projects together. 00:00:24
Global Scholars is an international program in which students from different countries can communicate and exchange ideas about the environment. 00:00:33
This year we have joined the program and worked about water. 00:00:44
This is the way we have worked in the program. 00:00:49
We have completed five units about different issues related to water. 00:00:53
water. First, we have read the material that Global Scholars has sent us. Then, we have researched 00:00:58
and shared our ideas with students from other countries. We have been able to read their ideas 00:01:06
as well and exchange opinions. We have worked in groups to plan, design and elaborate a final 00:01:14
project that shows our compressor for each unit. We have post our project and check the ones from 00:01:21
our fields. This project has been the video from unit 1 and the postcard from unit 3 but we have 00:01:29
also had from preparing the water pipe, poster and infographic. The most important things we have 00:01:39
learned this year from global scholars are how many people take care of the environment 00:01:49
in different parts of the world, how important it is to recycle and save water, how to make 00:01:55
projects in group, how to communicate with other students with respect and how to post 00:02:02
projects and opinions so that other students can see them. 00:02:09
In this unit, our teacher explained to us that we were going to be part of a big project 00:02:13
along the school year, Global Scholars. 00:02:34
She said that we were going to meet people from different countries and research where 00:02:37
in the world they work. 00:02:45
Later she explained important to interact with other students. 00:02:49
We couldn't show our faces in our profile photos, use our surnames, share personal information, 00:02:54
or post unreliable messages without permission or supervision from our teachers. 00:03:03
At the next day, Steve showed us the vocabulary of Slovak language, and we learned to post 00:03:09
and reply to messages. 00:03:31
Then we started a project, which consisted of preparing a video presentation of our class and school, as it was our first project. 00:03:34
We learned how to organize the work. We formed groups and distributed tags. 00:03:47
The editors, the writers and the ones that looked for images. All the material was shared in a padlet in our virtual classroom. 00:03:53
When the project was finished, including a recording of our voices and photos of our class, school and city, we posted it explaining what it was and how we had done it. 00:04:04
We could also see products from other cities. 00:04:26
This unit was water. 00:04:34
The first to leave was to investigate water pollution in our country, 00:04:50
and it was very much. 00:05:02
We chose the most important one from all cities. 00:05:05
We were friendly, though, sharing it in the normal discussion. 00:05:11
We could play around water celebration. 00:05:17
Around there was food for our peers, for other people. 00:05:22
King was pretty interesting. 00:05:33
Another very important activity in this unit was an analysis of water footprint. 00:05:37
We were really surprised about the amount of water we used. It is huge. 00:05:44
We also had a really good time conducting a field research of water used in our school. 00:05:50
We went around it, counting the taps and tonnage without looking for where we used water. 00:05:57
For our final project, a water life, we did a brainstorm for ideas about how to use water to waste it. 00:06:05
Then, we planned the content of our project and used Canva to do a presentation about it. 00:06:12
Everything in the class continued. 00:06:19
It was very interesting to learn about water access and security at the school and other parts of the world. 00:06:21
We realised we are very lucky in our city because water is safe and available for everybody. 00:06:28
The first thing we did was research about a body of water and read about water security, 00:06:40
which means that people can access the water they need to be healthy and happy. 00:06:47
We looked for information about the way our water system works and the sources of water for our city. 00:06:54
All of us went to an exhibition, Somos Agua, We are Water, organized by Canal de Isabel II, 00:07:07
the company that manages the water in the city of Madrid. 00:07:15
It was really interesting to see the models, photos and videos about water, about how water is brought, treated and delivered into our houses. 00:07:20
We learned about the cycle of water in our region, and we became engineers and designed two projects to use the wind and water to generate electricity. 00:07:40
We also learned about water conservation tips, like having showers instead of baths, or not leaving the tap open while washing our hands or brushing our teeth. 00:07:53
Our final project in this unit was a podcast in which we explained that we had learned about water in the cities of Madrid. 00:08:10
It was fun, but difficult. 00:08:22
In this unit, we learned that everything we do to the environment affects other parts of the world. 00:08:33
The water in the world is limited and different types of pollution can affect it. 00:08:41
We read about it. We played the water game all together in the class and could 00:08:48
to see very clearly how decisions and actions we take affect the rights of the community and the cycle of life. 00:08:56
Another activity we really enjoyed was the water security issue survey. 00:09:09
First, the environment issue relates to environment for water that are important for our community 00:09:14
a possible action that we can take, then we choose the four most important ones in our opinion. 00:09:23
Leukoplastic, municipals, drugs and pollutions. 00:09:34
We also choose four possible solutions. 00:09:38
Recycling, saving water, using less plastic and eating less red meat. 00:09:40
We did the survey to our schoolmates from year four and six. 00:09:45
and recover their answer. 00:09:51
For our final project, we refine the results and conclusion of survey on a photographic 00:09:54
that some of us elaborate using the application Canva. 00:10:06
In this unit we have summarized everything we have learned along the year in Global Scholars. 00:10:23
We want to show it to our schoolmates, parents and community because we think it is important. 00:10:32
We started the unit by saying what we could do to improve life in our neighbourhood and choose elections. 00:10:41
clean an area that isn't near our school we brought we brought bags and clubs and went to 00:10:49
empty lots we split the class into small groups and picked up all the rubbish we called fun 00:10:57
the place didn't seem to be very dirty but the amount of degrees that we called it was amazing 00:11:05
When we finished it, we classified the rubbish into different types, plastic, paper, glass, 00:11:14
contribution and materials, and placed them into recycling bins. 00:11:24
We even found a carpet and a mattress. 00:11:31
From the activity we learned that it is everybody's responsibility to keep our streets and neighbourhoods clean. 00:11:37
Another important community action is making this video to promote our work. 00:11:52
each other in Spain, others to collaborate and improve our community. 00:11:59
We want to invite you to help our planet by doing different things. 00:12:07
Recycle as much as you can. 00:12:11
Keep your radio, don't throw rubbish on the floor. 00:12:14
Save water, take showers instead of bath. 00:12:17
Close the tub when washing your hands. 00:12:20
Stop using plastic bottles or bags. 00:12:23
Pre-use clothes or donate them so that others can use them. 00:12:25
Before buying something, think if you really need it. 00:12:29
Use public transport. 00:12:33
Share your ideas to help the planet with your friends and relatives. 00:12:35
We are sure that if everyone takes action, we can stop climate change and its effects. 00:12:41
Help our planet! We only have you! 00:12:48
