Good morning. I'm going to be doing the first rebuttal. 00:00:04
So, first off, I'm going to start by going through the arguments that the opposing team has suggested, or, well, I'm sorry, presented. 00:00:07
One, they say that it would disturb traffic to improve public transport and improve pedestrian areas. 00:00:14
To which I want to say, our goal is to improve these things. 00:00:25
So, you know, in an ideal world where we have improved these to the point of near perfection, 00:00:29
we wouldn't really need private transport in the first place because it would be an efficient alternative and wouldn't need to be used. 00:00:35
Second, they have mentioned overcrowding, they've mentioned thieves, they've mentioned littering by tourists, and noise also by tourists. 00:00:43
most of these problems regarding tourists 00:00:51
can be fixed by making laws 00:00:55
hiring more policemen, hiring people 00:00:57
cleaning the rubbish that the tourists have generated 00:01:00
and therefore also generating more jobs 00:01:03
which would benefit the economy 00:01:06
and I do feel the need to mention too 00:01:07
that tourists are, in the case of Spain 00:01:09
the backbone of our economy 00:01:13
if we were to remove tourists 00:01:14
or stop developing pedestrian areas 00:01:17
In public transport, a lot of the Spanish economy would suffer devastating consequences, 00:01:20
and many people would be unemployed or left with financial issues. 00:01:27
Second, they mentioned that a problem with public transport is, for example, during the COVID pandemic. 00:01:33
During the COVID pandemic, well, first off, that was a very special situation that doesn't happen very often, as we all know. 00:01:41
But the first few months were incredibly chaotic. 00:01:48
But after a while, with legislations regarding masks and safety, 00:01:52
we have been able to use public transport again normally. 00:01:57
I mean, nowadays, and even a few years ago, we were wearing masks in public transport, 00:02:02
but we were still able to use it. 00:02:07
And now that we have the experience of this situation, 00:02:09
I think that any possible future pandemics would be way easier to deal with, 00:02:12
and we wouldn't have the same issues that we faced with this one. 00:02:16
They also mentioned that people should have the freedom to choose what they use, 00:02:19
and I couldn't agree more, but, you know, the issue is that we're not forcing anybody 00:02:24
to use public transport or pedestrian areas. 00:02:28
We're just saying that it would be an effective alternative. 00:02:31
Okay, so now I'm going to run through our own arguments really fast. 00:02:36
Our first argument is the harmful effects on the environment and our health that private transport causes, 00:02:40
which would be CO2 emissions, which public transport produces 3.5 times less CO2 than private transport per passenger, 00:02:51
and the effects that pollution exposure can have on people. 00:03:04
So there's many types of pollution, all of which are generated by private transport, 00:03:07
like air pollution, noise pollution, and water pollution, 00:03:12
whereas tourism only really generates water pollution, maybe, or littering, 00:03:14
because the noise pollution created by tourists, let's face it, 00:03:20
it's not comparable to the noise pollution generated by cars or private transport in general. 00:03:23
So safety, there's also a lot less accidents in public transport than there is in private transport. 00:03:30
I have some graphs, but I'm not doing very well. 00:03:36
And we're in the hands of trained professionals, 00:03:39
whereas in private transport, you're in the hands of everyone around you, 00:03:42
because you know what? 00:03:45
All it takes is one small mistake from the guy next to you, 00:03:46
and that could cost you your life. 00:03:49
With all this said, I'm concluding my rebuttal. 00:03:50
Thank you for listening. 00:03:53
Thank you. 00:03:53
