Earth can be divided into four different spheres, the geosphere , the hydrosphere , 00:00:00
the biosphere , and the atmosphere . 00:00:13
In the next units we are going to study all of them, beginning with the geosphere. 00:00:21
The geosphere is the sphere that contains the entire rocky structure of Earth. 00:00:28
This means that it is formed by all the rocks and magma from the core to the surface. 00:00:34
The geosphere can be divided in three layers. 00:00:42
The crust is the Earth's outermost and thinnest layer. 00:00:51
It is solid, composed of rocks and minerals. 00:00:59
It can be oceanic, on the sea and ocean floors, with a thickness of about 6 km, or continental, 00:01:10
on the continent, thicker, with a maximum thickness of 70 km in the largest mountain. 00:01:21
The mantle. 00:01:30
It is the largest layer. 00:01:32
of the mantle is solid however a tiny section of the upper part is composed of molten rocks 00:01:34
what we call magma finally the core it is the innermost layer it is made of dense materials 00:01:46
mostly iron and nickel because during the formation of the planet the densest substances 00:01:55
ended up in the deepest part of the planet. 00:02:02
It is divided in an outer core, liquid, 00:02:07
which is responsible for the magnetic field of the Earth, 00:02:11
and an inner core that is solid due to the high levels of pressure. 00:02:19
