In the biggest, brownest, muddiest river in Africa, two crocodiles lay with their heads 00:00:00
just above the water. 00:00:20
One of the crocodiles was enormous, the other one was not so big. 00:00:21
Do you know what I would like for lunch today? 00:00:26
The enormous crocodile asked. 00:00:31
No. 00:00:36
One said, what? 00:00:38
The enormous crocodile grinned, showing hundreds of sharp white teeth. 00:00:41
For my lunch today? 00:00:46
He said. 00:00:51
I would like a nice juicy little time. 00:00:52
I never eat a chicken. 00:00:57
The not so big one said. 00:01:00
Only fish. 00:01:02
Two and three. 00:01:04
Nasty and bitter. 00:01:06
Waterful to tongue, they are juicy and tummy. 00:01:08
They taste so bitter. 00:01:14
The not so big one said. 00:01:17
You have to cover them with sugar before you can eat them. 00:01:19
Children are bitter than fish. 00:01:26
Said the enormous crocodile. 00:01:30
You get bitter helpings. 00:01:33
You are greedy. 00:01:36
The not so big one said. 00:01:38
You are the greediest croc in the whole river. 00:01:40
A gigantic creature was standing in the slimy, oasy mud on the riverbank. 00:01:43
It was Humpy Rumpy, the hippopotamus. 00:01:47
Hello, hello. 00:01:50
Said Humpy Rumpy. 00:01:52
Where on earth you are off to at this time of day? 00:01:54
I have secret plans and clever tricks. 00:01:57
Said the crocodile. 00:02:00
Order. 00:02:02
Said Humpy Rumpy. 00:02:04
I will bet you are going to do something original. 00:02:06
The enormous crocodile grinned at Humpy Rumpy and said. 00:02:10
I am going to fill my yummy and bitter tummy with something yummy, yummy, yummy. 00:02:13
Inside the jungle, he met Chunky, the elephant. 00:02:20
Chunky was nibbling leaves from the top of a tall tree. 00:02:24
And he didn't notice the crocodile at first. 00:02:27
But the crocodile bit him on the leg. 00:02:29
Ow! 00:02:31
Said Chunky in his big, deep voice. 00:02:33
Who did that? 00:02:36
Oh, it's you, I said. 00:02:38
You big crocodile. 00:02:40
Back to your big, brown, muddy river where you belong? 00:02:42
I have secret plans and clever tricks. 00:02:45
Said the crocodile. 00:02:48
How? 00:02:50
You made your nasty plans a nasty trick. 00:02:52
Said Chunky. 00:02:54
You've never done a nice thing in your entire life. 00:02:56
The enormous crocodile grinned up at Chunky and said. 00:02:59
I now find a yummy turn for lunch. 00:03:02
Keep listening and you will hear the bones crunch. 00:03:05
A bit further on, he met Mugglewump, the monkey. 00:03:08
Mugglewump was sitting in a tree, eating nuts. 00:03:11
Hello, Crikey. 00:03:14
Said Mugglewump. 00:03:18
What are you up to now? 00:03:20
I have secret plans and clever tricks. 00:03:22
Said the crocodile. 00:03:25
Would you like some nuts? 00:03:27
Asked Mugglewump. 00:03:29
I have better things to eat than nuts. 00:03:31
Sniffed the crocodile. 00:03:34
Sniffed the crocodile. 00:03:35
I didn't think there was anything better than nuts. 00:03:37
Uh-huh. 00:03:40
Said Mugglewump. 00:03:42
Uh-huh. 00:03:44
Said the enormous crocodile. 00:03:46
The sort of thing that I'm going to eat have fingers, toes, nails, arms, legs and feet. 00:03:48
Mugglewump went pale and began to shake all over. 00:03:52
You aren't really going to gobble up a little child, are you? 00:03:56
He said. 00:03:59
Of course I am. 00:04:01
Said the crocodile. 00:04:03
It tastes better with the clothes on. 00:04:05
Oh, you horrid, hoggish croc. 00:04:08
Cried Mugglewump. 00:04:11
You slimy creature. I hope the buttons and buckles all stick to your toe and choke you to death. 00:04:13
A bit farther on, the enormous crocodile met the roly-poly bird. 00:04:20
The roly-poly bird was building a nest in an orange tree. 00:04:24
Hello there, enormous crocodile. 00:04:28
Sound the roly-poly bird. 00:04:31
We do not fancy you up here in the jungle. 00:04:33
Uh-huh. 00:04:36
Said the crocodile. 00:04:38
I have secret plans and clever tricks. 00:04:40
I hope it knows something nasty. 00:04:43
Sound the roly-poly bird. 00:04:46
Nasty? 00:04:48
Cried the crocodile. 00:04:50
Of course it's not nasty. It's delicious. 00:04:52
It's luscious, it's super, it's muscious, it's dope, it's better than roly-poly fish. 00:04:56
You must and must eat. It's children and should eat. 00:05:00
It's lovely to hear it go squish. 00:05:04
It must be berries. 00:05:09
Sound the roly-poly bird. 00:05:11
Berries are my favorite food in the world. 00:05:13
It is raspberries, perhaps, or could be strawberries. 00:05:15
The enormous crocodile laughed so much his teeth rattled together like pennies in a money box. 00:05:19
Crocodiles don't eat berries. 00:05:26
He said. 00:05:28
With little boys and girls, and sometimes with roly-poly birds as well. 00:05:30
A few hours later, the enormous crocodile went to a fair in a small village, 00:05:36
and when no one was looking, he grabbed up onto the roundabout 00:05:41
and put himself between a wooden lion and a fearsome dragon. 00:05:45
He sat up a bit on his back legs and he kept very still. 00:05:48
He looked exactly like a crocodile on the roundabout. 00:05:51
Soon, all sorts of children came flocking into the fair. 00:05:53
Several of them ran towards the roundabout. 00:05:56
They were very excited. 00:05:58
I'm going to ride on a dragon. 00:06:01
I'm going on a lovely white horse. 00:06:04
I'm going on a lion. 00:06:07
And one little girl, whose name was Jill, said. 00:06:11
I'm going to ride on that funny old wood crocodile. 00:06:15
Funny old wood crocodile. 00:06:20
The enormous crocodile kept very still, 00:06:24
like he could see the little girl coming towards him. 00:06:27
Jumpy, jump, jump. 00:06:30
He thought. 00:06:33
I will grab her up. 00:06:35
Is she in a block? 00:06:38
It was the roly-poly bird. 00:06:40
He flew around and around the roundabout, thinking. 00:06:43
Look out, Jill. Look out, look out. 00:06:46
Look at that crocodile. 00:06:49
Jill stopped and looked up. 00:06:51
That's not a wooden crocodile, 00:06:54
said the roly-poly bird. 00:06:57
It's a real one. 00:07:00
It's the enormous crocodile from the river, 00:07:02
and he wants to eat you up. 00:07:04
Suddenly, a big, big voice from the jungle shouted. 00:07:06
Stand back, children. Stand back. Stand back. 00:07:10
The children stopped and stared at the place where the voice was coming from. 00:07:13
Then, with a crashing of branches, 00:07:17
chunky dolphin came rushing out of the jungle. 00:07:20
That's not a branch you were going to sit on. 00:07:23
He bellowed. 00:07:26
It's the enormous crocodile, and he wants to eat you all up. 00:07:28
Chunky drooled over to a spot where the enormous crocodile was standing, 00:07:32
and quick as a flash, he wrapped his trunk around the crocodile's tail 00:07:36
and hoisted him up into the air. 00:07:39
Hey, let me go. 00:07:42
Let me go, 00:07:43
yelled the enormous crocodile, who was now dangling upside down. 00:07:45
Let me go. Let me go. 00:07:49
No, 00:07:51
Chunky said. 00:07:53
I will not let you go. 00:07:55
We've all had quite enough of your clever tricks. 00:07:57
Chunky began to swing the crocodile round and round in the air. 00:08:00
At first, he swung him slowly. 00:08:03
Then he swung him faster, and faster, and faster still. 00:08:06
Soon, the enormous crocodile was just a blurry circle going round and round Chunky's head. 00:08:11
Suddenly, Chunky let go of the crocodile's tail, 00:08:18
and the crocodile went shooting high up into the sky like a huge dreamer. 00:08:21
Up and up he went, higher and higher, faster and faster. 00:08:25
He thought the air was just a tiny, dark mountain. 00:08:31
At last, the crocodile had enough. 00:08:35
He went up high into the sky. 00:08:37
He went in front of all the stars and planets, 00:08:39
until at last, with the most humongous 00:08:41
BANG! 00:08:44
The enormous crocodile crashed headfirst into the hot, hot sun 00:08:46
and went sizzling like a bacon. 00:08:49
I want to eat bacon. 00:08:51
I want to eat bacon. 00:09:04
