UNICEF correspondent David McKenzie reports on the story of 15-year-old Prossy who was abducted by rebels and held for two years.

schoolwork diligently. Like almost any Ugandan child she helps her mother in 00:00:07
their small garden and prepares food for her siblings. But like many northern 00:00:14
Ugandan children she suffered a terrible trauma. Prosi was abducted by the Lord's 00:00:20
Resistance Army and for two years was kept away from her family. I was 00:00:27
abducted from our village at Unyama. She had to babysit the rebel children and 00:00:33
carry heavy loads. They were constantly on the move and had to loot food from 00:00:40
villagers to keep from starving. The effects of the conflict on children in 00:00:45
Uganda is hard to quantify but abducted girls often have no opportunity for 00:00:51
education. Some of them might have been abducted when they are still very young 00:00:57
and when they come back they feel they cannot fit now the level of education 00:01:02
where they stopped. The shot that released Prosi hit her in the foot. She 00:01:08
was left for dead and was helped by the Ugandan military. Though she missed two 00:01:14
years of her life she went back to finish primary school. She now wants to 00:01:20
be a nurse. What I see today is that education is wealth. It will mean that 00:01:25
