A bit is a 1 or a 0. 00:00:15
Information is put into a computer's memory as 1s and 0s. 00:00:17
Because only two numerals are used, 0 and 1, the number system is called binary. 00:00:21
To write a binary number, we start on the right with the 1s place. 00:00:27
Next to the left comes the 2s place, then the 4s place, and so on. 00:00:31
1, 1, 0 in a binary is the same as the decimal number 6. 00:00:35
What about a byte? 00:00:39
A byte is 8 bits long, where each bit fills a place in an 8-digit binary number. 00:00:41
One byte can stand for a letter or other character. 00:00:46
