Silence, please. 00:00:00
Good morning, I'm Sofia and I'm going to do the first eval. 00:00:10
Firstly, I'm going to start talking about the points of my team. 00:00:16
Well, firstly, they talk about how improving the basin areas will cause less pollution. 00:00:20
But this is not true, because it would just move the pollution from the center of the city to another area. 00:00:25
Secondly, they talk about how public transport is acceptable, but it's actually not. 00:00:31
I will talk about this in my third argument. 00:00:35
And lastly, I'll talk about how public transport is more used when there is a better place in areas. 00:00:38
But this causes mass tourism, like my teammate said. 00:00:43
So I will tell you now why it's bad. 00:00:47
So for my first argument, this is for touristification, 00:00:50
and how it can worsen the functionality of public transport. 00:00:55
Touristification refers to the process in which an area becomes a popular tourist destination. 00:00:58
It causes one of the main negative effects in the public transport, which is the increase in crime rate. 00:01:05
There has been, in lots of cities, an increase in the crime rate because of this recidivism process. 00:01:12
For example, in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, London and New York. 00:01:18
If we center in Paris, the police have reported that there has been an increase in this rate in the metro, 00:01:22
especially in lines that connect tourist areas and stations close to tourist destinations. 00:01:28
For my second argument, 00:01:34
I want to talk about the duration of 00:01:35
pedestrian areas can be a waste 00:01:37
of time or even a health hazard. 00:01:39
So, you know, 00:01:42
Pasamitim is a population that lives 00:01:43
in the north of the city and needs to go to the schools, 00:01:45
jobs, or other places 00:01:47
are going to waste time and the contamination 00:01:49
is going to move to other places 00:01:51
because of the duration of traffic times. 00:01:53
Maybe this is not a problem for some, 00:01:55
but I would like to give you another example. 00:01:57
Yes? 00:02:01
Don't you think tourism provides lots of benefits? 00:02:02
Well, maybe in some areas, but if the tourism is very increased, 00:02:06
it can decrease the level of the people living there. 00:02:09
So, for my example, my grandmother once fell down the stairs, 00:02:11
and she was with my parents. 00:02:15
And they had to rush her to the hospital because she broke an arm, 00:02:16
but she couldn't recover the whole mobility. 00:02:20
Now, imagine using the Retiro of Madrid as a pedestrian area, 00:02:22
that my grandmother was alone and had this accident here. 00:02:26
My parents would live more or less here, so they had to surround all the area to get there, 00:02:29
and then again, all again to the hospital. 00:02:33
This would be a waste of time, and she wouldn't have to cover her whole mobility. 00:02:36
Do you think it's worth it to reach the 12th participants for reducing a bit of pollution? 00:02:39
I don't. 00:02:43
So, for my last argument, I'd like to talk about how public transport is not such an 00:02:44
efficient alternative for everyone. 00:02:49
For example, according to the Metro Mali website, in 2020 they had approximately 64 stations 00:02:51
that are not accessible at all, out of the 302 stations in the whole railway system. 00:02:58
This means that 21% of the stations cannot be used by people with reduced mobility. 00:03:05
It's true that some of these stations have escalators or elevators and lifts, which promote 00:03:11
accessibility, but it's a barrier still for all people or for the physically disabled. 00:03:16
In the case of Renfe, according to its 2021 accessibility report, 00:03:23
of a total of 1,187 stations throughout Spain, 545 were not adapted for these people. 00:03:27
This means approximately 43.4% of Renfe's systems is not adapted and is not accessible, 00:03:34
which is almost half of the whole railway system in Spain. 00:03:41
It is actually true that Madrid, Metro and Renfe have established a plan 00:03:45
to create more accessible stations. 00:03:51
But it won't be until 2030 that it's accessible 00:03:53
for our citizens that we're talking about now. 00:03:56
That's all from my event. Thank you. 00:03:59
