Hello, good morning everybody. I'm here to tell you a story, a story that happened long time ago in the Iberian Peninsula where we live.
00:00:17
It's a story about kings, queens, explorers and a new territory.
00:00:30
The Iberian Peninsula was divided in five kingdoms.
00:00:35
The Kingdom of Navarra, the Kingdom of Portugal, the Corona de Castilla, the Corona de Aragón.
00:00:39
and small territories holding the Kingdom of Granada were mass enslaved.
00:00:46
In 1469, Isabel and Fernando got married.
00:00:53
They were not yet the Queen of Castilla or the King of Aragon.
00:01:00
They became Fernando II of Aragon and Isabel I of Castilla ten years later.
00:01:04
So in 1479, when they became king and queen of different kingdoms, they unified their
00:01:10
territories, although both kingdoms still get their own laws and their own institutions,
00:01:18
and they were known as the Steinites.
00:01:26
Some years later, in 1492, the Catholic kings conquered the Kingdom of Granada, that kingdom
00:01:29
that was made by Massacres.
00:01:35
They finished the reconquest with that conquest, and they imposed Christianity to all territories, expelling and prohibiting all the religions.
00:01:38
In the 15th century, the Reyes Católicos extended the territory through a lot of parts of Europe and the north of Africa.
00:01:46
They conquered the Reino de Navarra in the Verdeña Peninsula, the Kingdom of Naples in Italy, they also conquered Melilla in the north of Africa and other territories, and also the Canary Islands.
00:01:54
The Reyes Católicos had five children, Isabel, Juan, Juana, María and Catalina.
00:02:06
They tried to marry all of them, making political and territorial alliances with other countries
00:02:13
in Europe so they would get more powerful and had more to rejoice.
00:02:18
All their daughters became queens of different European countries because they got married
00:02:23
with kings of those countries.
00:02:28
When Isabel I died, the daughter Juana, who was called La Loca after him, and his husband
00:02:31
Felipe, who was called El Hermoso, became king of the Queen of Castilla.
00:02:37
But this is a story I will tell you in another moment.
