In this presentation, I will tell you a little bit about the town that I grew up in, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
00:00:01
Here is a little bit about the history of Pittsburgh.
00:00:19
The history of Pittsburgh began with centuries of Native American civilization in the modern Pittsburgh region.
00:00:22
Eventually, French and British explorers encountered the strategic confluence
00:00:30
where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers meet to form the Ohio,
00:00:35
which leads to the Mississippi River. All of these rivers were great for trading and bringing
00:00:39
in industrial goods to the city of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh truly prides themselves on their
00:00:45
sports teams. Our football team is the Pittsburgh Steelers, our baseball team is the Pittsburgh
00:00:53
Pirates, and our hockey team is the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Pittsburgh Steelers football team
00:01:01
has won six Super Bowls. The Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team has won five World Series
00:01:07
and the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team has won four Stanley Cups making it a great city to live
00:01:16
in if you love sports. Pittsburgh Pennsylvania is along the east coast of the United States.
00:01:24
It is surrounded by New York, Ohio, West Virginia, Washington, D.C., New Jersey, and Delaware.
00:01:33
Pennsylvania geography is made up of mountain ranges coming from the Appalachian Mountains,
00:01:43
three rivers, the Allegheny, Ohio, and Monongahela, and lots of great wildlife.
00:01:52
The great thing about Pittsburgh is that you can drive a few hours and go skiing, be at the beach, and enjoy lots of outdoor activities.
00:01:58
I will now tell you about some things that make Pittsburgh famous.
00:02:08
I'll start by talking about the bridges. The bridges of Pittsburgh play an important role in the city's transportation system.
00:02:17
Without the bridges, the Pittsburgh region would be a series of fragmented valleys, hillsides, river plains, and isolated communities.
00:02:25
Pittsburgh is known as the City of Bridges.
00:02:35
Next, I will tell you about Kennywood.
00:02:38
Kennywood is Pittsburgh's most famous attraction park, with lots of old wooden roller coasters.
00:02:40
Finally, I will tell you about the Heinz Company.
00:02:49
I'm sure you're familiar with Heinz Ketchup.
00:02:52
Well, guess what? That comes from Pittsburgh.
00:02:54
Pittsburgh also has lots of museums, universities, hospitals, parks, great food, and as I mentioned before, great sports teams.
00:02:58
Some universities include Carnegie Mellon University, Point Park University, Robert Morris University, and the University of Pittsburgh.
00:03:09
Pittsburgh is famous for lots of foods. The first one, as you can see, is Iron City beer, which is brewed right in the city.
00:03:20
The second one is a classic ham sandwich. The third one is a Primani's Brother sandwich, which includes meat and french fries between two big pieces of bread.
00:03:30
The fourth, as mentioned before, is Heinz Ketchup.
00:03:42
The fifth one is a Klondike Bar, which has vanilla ice cream in the middle and chocolate coated on the outside.
00:03:46
And the sixth is a Clark Candy Bar.
00:03:53
If you ever get the chance, visit Pittsburgh.
