Le service d'aide humanitaire de la Commission européenne finance CARE International pour soutenir les personnes touchées par la crise qui continue en Palestine.
Israel is occupying the West Bank, where this village is, and has very tight control of
00:00:00
people's movement. They have a series of checkpoints, and people cannot pass through the checkpoint
00:00:30
unless they have the permission of the Israeli Defence Forces. And those permits are given
00:00:38
out very sparingly. If you're a pregnant lady and you turn up at a checkpoint, you may or
00:00:48
may not have permission to go through. If you don't have a permit, they would send you
00:00:56
back, and you would need to go through the process of applying for a permit. And that
00:01:01
can take anything from a day to several days, and may not result in you getting a permit.
00:01:05
And then there's no guarantee, even if you have a permit, that they will let you through.
00:01:14
The core aim of the project here is to make sure that the citizens have access to primary
00:01:26
healthcare. Before we began, if they were sick, they needed to go to one of the health
00:01:33
facilities in the nearby big towns. So they were effectively without any kind of healthcare.
00:01:40
Here we have a chronic emergency, a highly political emergency. But we know that, first
00:01:48
of all, we have a functioning, a still functioning health system, and we have very strong local
00:02:00
healthcare providers. What we're trying to do is to keep that health system operating
00:02:08
as best we can. It's the bare minimum. The moment a peace process is achieved, and the
00:02:16
humanitarian situation improves, we can simply hand it back. They won't need us. They can
00:02:24
do it themselves. This is a very educated population. You have the expertise, and you
00:02:31
have the capacity.
