Although there is still poverty in the characteristics of a developing nation, 00:00:14

Today it's one of the world's major economies, 00:00:21
and is lining up alongside China, India and Russia 00:00:24
as one of the economic superpowers of the future. 00:00:27
And its biggest trading partner is the European Union. 00:00:30
I mean, that is clearly a sign that we have moved from a situation 00:00:34
of old colonial power to developing country to a nation of parity. 00:00:38
We just hope to give them part of our know-how 00:00:44

Companies like Petrobras are taking the export potential of green energy very seriously. 00:00:55
Brazil got a head start in biofuels in the 1970s. 00:01:01
In response to the oil crisis, they began running engines on ethanol 00:01:05
produced from their abundant harvest of sugarcane. 00:01:08
We have been using ethanol as a fuel, 00:01:12
as a substitute for gasoline for a long time. 00:01:15
So the company Petrobras and the country both have a very, very long history, 00:01:18
and a very good experience. 00:01:23
And I would say that you are leaders in terms of biofuels. 00:01:24
These days, Brazilian scientists are also world leaders in biodiesel technologies, 00:01:28
adding refined vegetable oil to conventional diesel. 00:01:33
In the EU, we have that ambitious agenda of moving to a percentage 00:01:37
of about 20% of renewable energies by 2020, which is very ambitious. 00:01:43
We know that we have to import from other parts of the world, 00:01:48
and Brazil will certainly have a stake in our energy mix in the future. 00:01:52
