Toys are not playthings when it comes to safety. 00:00:00
This year, the EU started modernizing its 20-year-old rules on toys. 00:00:18
New controls on the materials used in toys will ban cancer-causing chemicals 00:00:25
and reduce the content of harmful substances such as lead or mercury. 00:00:30
Safety information will also have to be supplied with toys carrying any risk. 00:00:37
Already, toys containing tiny magnets are now required to carry labels 00:00:43
warning against the risk of swallowing them. 00:00:47
And the EU has insisted that safety must be central to the culture of toy manufacturers. 00:00:51
A message directed particularly at China, where so many of the toys in the EU come from. 00:00:58
