What are sports injuries? The term sports injury refers to the kind of injuries 00:00:00
that most commonly occur during sports or exercise. Some sports injuries result 00:00:05
from accidents, others are due to poor training practices, improper equipment, 00:00:10
lack of conditioning or insufficient warm-up and stretching. Following are the 00:00:15
most common injuries. The first most common sport injury is the groin pull. 00:00:21
Pushing off in a side-to-side motion causes strain or rushing of the inner 00:00:27
side muscle or groin. The muscles in the groin are situated like a fan and are 00:00:32
used to help pull the legs together. Hockey, soccer, football and baseball are 00:00:37
common sports with groin injuries. Strains are injuries to muscle fibers or 00:00:42
tendons which anchor muscles to bones. Over stretching or overusing a muscle 00:00:47
causes tears in the muscle fibers or tendons. The tissue lengthens with 00:00:53
stress and returns to its normal length, unless it is pulled too far out of its 00:01:01
normal range. Shin splints are primarily seen in runners, particularly those just 00:01:08
starting a running program. Risk factors for shin splints include overuse or 00:01:15
or incorrect use of the lower leg, improper stretching, warm-up or exercise technique, 00:01:21
overtraining, running or jumping on hard surface. Concussions are brain injuries that happen when 00:01:27
there is a significant hit to the head. While not all concussions result in a lost consciousness, 00:01:34
they do often include nausea, difficulty concentrating, loss of balance, dizziness, 00:01:40
amnesia disorientation headaches and other symptoms athletes who participate in a contact 00:01:46
sports like football wrestling hockey boxing and soccer most commonly get concussions gymnasts and 00:01:51
tears are also at risk it takes about two weeks to a month for a concierge to heal which is 00:01:58
accomplished by resting cerica cerica which is lower back pain that reaches down into the legs 00:02:04
can affect athletes who participate in cycling, running, golf, tennis and baseball. 00:02:13
Sciatica is most commonly caused by improper stretching but runners can also experience it 00:02:19
if they have one leg that is slightly longer than the other. Sciatica require quick medical 00:02:25
attention from a doctor but it can be treated with rest, ice and anti-inflammatory medication. 00:02:32
Repetitive motion injuries Painfully injuries such as stress fractures 00:02:39
which is a head-length fracture of the bone that has been subdued to repeated stress and 00:02:45
tendinitis can occur from overuse of muscles and tendons. 00:02:52
Shoulder injuries including dislocations, sprains and strains make up 20% of all sports 00:02:59
injuries. 00:03:06
The joints most likely to be dislocated are some of the hand joints. 00:03:08
Aside from these joints, the joint most frequently dislocated is the shoulder. 00:03:12
Dislocations of the knees, hips and elbows are uncommon. 00:03:18
