The Stone Age, the Paleolithic period. What do you think people ate before they discovered 00:00:00
fire? Read and think. 1. Read and find out. A. How do we get information about this period? 00:00:06
B. Where and how did people live? Prehistory is divided into two periods, the Stone Age 00:00:15
and the Bronze and Iron Ages. The Stone Age began when the first humans emerged and began to use 00:00:22
tools, about 2.5 million years ago. The first part of the Stone Age is called the Paleolithic 00:00:28
period. It started about 2.5 million years ago and ended about 10,000 years ago. 00:00:35
Paleolithic people were nomadic. This means they didn't live permanently in one place. 00:00:43
They lived in small groups and went from one place to another looking for food. 00:00:50
Paleolithic people hunted and fished to get food. 00:00:57
They also collected fruits and plants. 00:01:00
During this period, people discovered how to make fire. 00:01:02
After that, they could cook their food. 00:01:06
Paleolithic people lived in caves or huts made of tree branches and animal skins. 00:01:11
They wore clothes made of animal skins, too. 00:01:17
Paleolithic people made tools from stone, wood, and animal bones. 00:01:22
For example, they made spears for hunting. 00:01:26
Archaeologists are people who look for objects in buildings from the past. 00:01:32
They have found objects such as tools and bones and cave paintings from the Paleolithic period. 00:01:37
Objects and paintings give us information about Paleolithic people and how they lived. 00:01:43
Archaeologists have found human bones that are up to 1 million years old in the Sierra de Atapuerca in Burgos. 00:01:48
These bones are the earliest confirmed evidence of humans in Western Europe. 00:01:57
There are many cave paintings in the Altamira Cave in Cantabria. 00:02:04
The paintings show different animals and people's hands. 00:02:09
These tools are made of bone and stone. 00:02:13
The harpoons were used for fishing and the spears were used for hunting. 00:02:16
