Legend in the Rock Pillars, Wulingyuan. 00:00:00
This is Wulingyuan in the Hunan province of China. 00:00:07
It is a forest of 3,100 rocky pillars and peaks. 00:00:12
A railway was only built here in the 1970s. 00:00:18
The area was given the name Wulingyuan in 1984. 00:00:23
The village is hidden deep inside Wulingyuan, 00:00:29
located on top of the crags over 1,000 meters up. 00:00:32
It is called the Village in the Sky. 00:00:37
A minority ethnic group of two people 00:00:40
had been living here in isolation from the outside world. 00:00:43
The two have a distinct culture. 00:00:47
They have a tradition of making embroidered insoles 00:00:50
and presenting them to their chosen admirer. 00:00:52
Two people escaped from war and found refuge in this mountain area 00:00:55
about 2,500 years ago, 00:00:59
during the spring and autumn warring states period. 00:01:02
Local legend says that there was a strong leader 00:01:05
who led the two to rise up against the authorities 00:01:08
during the Ming dynasty. 00:01:11
His name was Tianwan Tianzi. 00:01:13
He created his own kingdom and chose the name Tianzi, 00:01:16
which means a son of heaven. 00:01:19
Despite the resistance, Tianwan Tianzi lost the war and committed suicide. 00:01:23
He jumped to his death from this point. 00:01:30
This is the hoofprint of the horse he was riding on. 00:01:34
He threw himself into the ravine 400 meters below. 00:01:38
However, two people believe that Tianwan Tianzi is still alive 00:01:43
and training soldiers at the bottom of the valley. 00:01:48
This is said to be his seal. 00:01:52
And these pillars are seen as his favorite brush. 00:01:57
The village today is holding a wedding ceremony. 00:02:02
The groom comes to the village in the sky to collect his bride who lives here. 00:02:10
They exchange rings. 00:02:17
Their hotel is at the bottom of the mountain. 00:02:20
The bride will come down from the sky to start a new life on earth. 00:02:25
Wulingyuan in winter. 00:02:34
The tip of Tianzi's brush with snow on top. 00:02:37
This mystic scenery reminds us of beautiful Chinese ink paintings 00:02:42
as if it was painted by the legendary hero with this brush. 00:02:46
It's the picture of a people's history of suffering. 00:02:50
