Integrated centres provide healthy development for children in Iran.

UNICEF correspondent Sabine Dolan reports on integrated early childhood centres that provide healthy development for southeastern Iran's underprivileged children.

Incomes have fallen, farms have dried up, having a profound effect on children's well-being. 00:00:16
This boy says the drought has forced his father to leave his family to earn a living as a fisherman. 00:00:21
Most of these children are malnourished. 00:00:27
In some rural areas, the malnutrition rate reaches 20%, but things are beginning to change. 00:00:30
That's because a partnership between Iran's Ministry of Health, UNICEF and local communities is creating integrated nutrition centers. 00:00:36

We learned how to cook healthy food for them and how to feed them. 00:00:50
Not long ago, distance was an obstacle for providing adequate health care, such as vaccination. 00:00:57
But now, thanks to these centers, mobile vaccination teams reach the remote villages. 00:01:03
The early years of a child's life are very important. 00:01:13
That's why having an integrated plan towards the physical, mental and nutritional development of children is quite vital. 00:01:17
Rural child care programs are also changing lives. 00:01:25
At home, these children speak Baluchi. 00:01:29
At the child care centers, they learn Farsi and basic math. 00:01:32
The UNICEF-supported program is showing positive results and today counts over 5,000 centers across the country. 00:01:36
In rural areas where people endure lower cultural and economic opportunities, 00:01:45
kindergarten has an important influence in improving the cultural, social and mental situation of children. 00:01:51
